Biography

Henry Boon Henry Boon was born in the Netherlands. After emigrating to Canada he continued his music studies at the Royal Conservatory in Toronto and after moving to Windsor, he studied organ with Gordon Young, while studying Harmony and Counterpoint at the Detroit Institute of Musical Arts.

During the time he was a student at the University of Windsor, Henry studied organ and piano with David Palmer and graduated in 1973 with a Bachelor of Music and in 1974 with a Bachelor of Education.

Henry taught instrumental and vocal music at Assumption High School in Windsor for 25 years, and he is currently Music Director at Tecumseh United Church.

Mr. Boon has composed sacred and secular vocal music for SATB choirs; music for solo voice and piano, as well as music for organ and other instruments. In 2009, his hymn “I Heard that God was Power,” for which Susan Boon wrote the lyrics, came in first out of 67 entries from across Canada in The Great Canadian Hymn Competition, sponsored by the Pax Christi Chorale under the direction of Stephanie Martin.

In 2013 and 2015 Henry Boon won awards with “The Wondrous Story”, “And Do Not Be Afraid” from the Amadeus Choir under the direction of Dr. Lydia Adams.
